Short Answer
NFC board (Natural Fibre Composite) is an engineered interior panel made from natural plant fibre bound with a polymer. It is uniform through the full thickness — no veneer layers, no hidden core, no grade ladder. WAZWOOD NFC board absorbs under 1% water in 24 hours (IS 2380), holds screws above 1900N, is structurally termite proof (ASTM D3345) and fire retardant (IS 1734). It replaces plywood, MDF and particle board for kitchens, wardrobes, panelling and commercial interiors.
This is the reference page for NFC board — what it is, how it is made, where it goes in a project, and how it sits against plywood, WPC and MDF. If you have heard the term from an architect or a dealer and want the full picture, start here. WAZWOOD Board — Designed For Legacy.
NFC board is a solid engineered panel of natural plant fibre held together by a polymer binder, formed under heat and pressure. Unlike plywood, which is thin wood veneers glued in layers, an NFC board is the same material all the way through. That single fact drives most of its advantages: nothing to delaminate, no weak core layer, no face veneer to fake, and identical behaviour in every sheet from every batch.
The full form is Natural Fibre Composite. You will also see it written as NFC sheet or NFC panel. It belongs to the same family as WPC and PVC boards — engineered alternatives to wood — but it is denser and more wood-like to work with than either.
In short: natural fibre is cleaned and dried, blended with a polymer binder and additives, then hot-pressed into a dense board and cooled under pressure so it stays flat. The density is set during pressing — a good interior board lands around 650–750 kg/m³. Density is the number that matters most, because a light board holds screws poorly and can be brittle. Always ask for the density figure and the IS 2380 water-absorption result before buying any NFC board.
Almost everywhere plywood goes indoors, and a few places plywood cannot:
| Where it goes | Thickness |
|---|---|
| Cabinet carcass, wardrobe shells, shutters, load shelves | 18 mm |
| Lighter shutters, drawer sides, panels under load | 12 mm |
| Drawer bottoms, back panels, ceiling infill | 6–9 mm |
